Smoking harm during pregnancyIt is known that it is prohibited to smoke for pregnant women (even you want so much!). And the husbands of prospective mothers should remind them that smoking is harmful and the life of a baby is under the threat. What will be the first reaction when you see a smoking pregnant woman? At your heart you imagine how you go to her and say “what are you doing, why do you ruin the future child?”, But in fact you go past looked at her reproachfully. Because we all know the consequences of smoking during pregnancy. Or not all? Well. Everywhere write that if a man smokes a cigarette less than a day before conception, the child may be born with disorders of the respiratory and cardiovascular systems.
It happens that children start smoking before their birth. They get nicotine through the placenta. It is known that an adult recovers from the effects of cigarettes in 4-6 hours, and undeveloped blood circulation, liver and kidneys of human embryo eliminate such a dose of poison not less than in 28 hours. It turns out that one cigarette a day poisons the future child.
Nicotinism increases during breast feeding, which also contains a large amount of venom – nicotine. As a result, the child begins to suffer from gastro-intestinal tract, it leads to decreased metabolism, therefore, there may occur such diseases such as diathesis and allergic reactions. Also in the future, the child may have chronic gastritis. According to experts, the newborn smokers’ weight is by 300-400 grams less than babies in nonsmoking women. These children have smaller volume of the brain and chest, and small stature. Very often they are born with an underdeveloped heart muscle, and congenital heart disease may occur.
As a result of neglect attitude of mothers to the health of their child, most children are born prematurely and suffer from oxygen starvation inside the mother. These children may have a defect of the skeleton, in particular the bones of hands and feet. Observations show that these children are often behind in mental and physical development of their healthy peers. According to German scientists, children smoking mothers are more inattentive and impulsive. And British scientists have concluded risk of developing autism increases by 40% in these children. It’s not all. British scientists have revealed the dependence of smoking at an early stage of pregnancy and the birth of a child with cleft face (the so called “cleft palate, or cleft lip”). They explain this by saying that at this stage of the formation of the embryo the palate is formed.

Do you know that:
- the children of smoking mothers will sooner or later start smoking
- such children suffer often from diabetes or obesity
- The frequency of unsuccessful pregnancy outcomes increases significantly in smoking mothers
- Frequent miscarriage and premature birth
- The growth rate of prematurity and underweight at birth
- irregularities in the feeding of infants are observed
- Adaptive capacities are decreased and the risk of disease is increased
- The number of birth defects is increased
- Worsen physical and mental development of children

So before you light up a cigarette, do not be in hurry and remember your baby. After all, every good mother wants her child be happy and healthy.
